BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE AND DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM

On completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Explain the scope and application of OLAP technology and business intelligence systems
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the major approaches to the development of business intelligence and reporting systems
  • Design simple multi-dimensional databases
  • Develop a simple business intelligence system using an OLAP tool
  • Develop a simple reporting system
  • Communicate and foster realistic expectations of the role of OLAP technology and business intelligence systems in management and decision support.

Introduction to business intelligence applications, the nature of business intelligence applications, methods of business intelligence application development, business intelligence technology, multidimensional modelling, business performance measurement, designing business intelligence application user interfaces, the future of business intelligence applications.

Lectures, practical sessions and case discussions.

End of course unit examination, practical tests and group assignments.
