SEMANTIC WEB AND ONTOLOGICAL ENGINEERING

On completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Describe the core standards and technical components of the Semantic Web and the concept of ontology
  • Design and develop ontology models for Semantic Web applications
  • Describe the trends in Semantic Web.

Introduction to traditional web vs. semantic web, real world applications in traditional and Semantic web environments, Resource Description Framework (RDF), RDFS, Taxonomy and Ontology, Theoretical foundation of Ontology, Ontology for Machine-Machine communication Design and Development of Ontology, Web Ontology Language: OWL, SPARQL, Tools for Ontological Modelling.

Lectures, assignments, case studies and self-study.

End of course unit examination, group projects and presentations.
