On completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the theories and principles of data warehousing
  • Explain the potential benefits of data warehousing
  • Explain the techniques and tools used to design a data warehouse
  • Describe the theories and principles of data warehousing with regard to the practice of decision support
  • Design multi-dimensional data structures
  • Appreciate how to interact effectively with managers, consultants and vendors in the development of a data warehouse.

Data warehousing as a process, data warehouse design, physical design, data warehousing architectures, data quality and metadata management, data warehouse technology decisions, data warehouse governance, business data mining.

Lectures, practical sessions and case discussions.

End of course unit examination, practical tests and group assignments.
